In the latest volume of Eiichiro Oda's epic manga, One Piece, three major battles are chronicled, as well as the motives of the big bad of the Alabasta arc, Crocodile.
In the first third of the volume, Sanji, the Straw Hat crew's chef and martial artist, battles Mr. 2 Bon Clay, the cross dressing ballet-fighter.(With hilarious facial drawings as Mr.2 transforms into Nami).
In the second third, Nami, the Straw Hat's navigator, battles Ms. Doublefinger, a sly woman with the lethal ability to produce spikes all over her body.(With hilarious deadpan as Nami's new weapon isn't all that much of a weapon).
And in the final act, Roronoa Zoro (known as Zolo in the Viz Media manga) battles Mr. 1, an assassin who can sprout bladed edges along anywhere on his body. One of the best fights of the entire series.(Not funny, just pure awesome).

In this volume of Eiichiro Oda's pirate manga epic, One Piece, the Alabasta begins to see closure as the main crew reconvenes from their battles to search for a large bomb in the city, and Luffy makes his epic return from near death, once more attempting to take down the main bad, Crocodile.
The volume ends with two final Baroque Works agents preventing the crew from stopping the bomb, and Luffy confronting Crocodile for their third and final match in a collapsing tomb.

The Next Chapter Starts Here!!
January 9, 2010 By Simon Format:Paperback
One Piece Volume 24 marks the final chapters of the Baroque Works saga and the beginning of the next big 'Skypiea' saga. It also marks the first volume of the new One Piece speed-up publishing plan, as books 25-28 have also been released simultaneously, with five more volumes each month until June 2010.
If you haven't been saving up, you might want to start now.

Picking up from where One Piece, Vol. 24 leaves off, the Straw Hat crew continue their quest to reach the fabled sky island "Skypiea." They run into the one man who may be able to help them accomplish this task, but complications ensue and it's up to Luffy to set things right.
This is an absolutely important volume in the One Piece saga - it's the first time readers are exposed to Oda's grander designs for his opus.

Welcome to Skypeia.
Here we are at volume 26, the arrival to one of my favorite locations in One Piece, Skypeia the Sky Island. The beginning of this volume contains probably my favorite element in adventure stories: the discovery of a new land. Upon breaching the upper cloud layer, Luffy and crew encounter roads of hard, silky cloud, sea creatures of frightening design, shells called "dials" with endless uses and applications, and a lovely young lady and her father.

The Survival Game Begins
In One Piece, Vol. 27, the Straw Hats discovered a long-lost connection between Skypiea and Jaya that involves a large amount of gold ready for the taking.
The crew sets out on their treasure hunt unaware that a war has started between the forces of Skypiea's Lord Eneru and the Shandian natives.
I don't think any real One Piece fans would really skip this volume based on a lower rating, but it's worth noting this volume isn't as satisfying as the ones before it.

Vol. 31 - We'll Be Here
November 13, 2011 By A. Richter Format:Paperback
Amazon Verified Purchase
As other reviewers have noticed, volume 31 is primarily
a flashback. As is typical of Oda, this flashback serves to bring new and important meaning to the main story arc. Without this look 400 years into Skypiea's past the actions of its current inhabitants would lack much of
their depth and impact.
Not only that; this "side story" is so well written with such emotional impact that I tear up every time I read it.

Strap in for the longest saga yet
March 3, 2010 By Simon Format:Paperback
One Piece Volume 34 finishes off the spectacular Davy Back Fight from the previous volume - Luffy's tired, raw, and beaten half-to-death, but he's not about to lose any crew members to the Foxy Pirates. And just when he's finally won, a new threat emerges that puts the entire Straw Hat crew in serious jeopardy.
And so it begins. If the Davy Back Fight was a pre-show warm-up, then this is the volume where readers are dropped into the Water 7 arc proper. There are no mini arcs or smaller, digestible adventures here - it's one continuous 12+ volume roller coaster-of-a-ride that grows exponentially more epic and urgent as it progresses. You're going to kick yourself if you run out of coin to buy the books halfway through.

One Piece is worth it!
Water Seven is proving out to be the best and most eventful One Piece arc so far. It has always been a story of friendship, strength and willpower, but here is where all of those things are put to the test. It's particularly satisfying for those of us who have followed it for years.
But if you haven't read One Piece yet: you have the privilege of seeing this arc unfold without having to wait. Don't miss it! I guarantee you it is well worth your time and effort.

To The Rescue!
CP9 has been revealed and Galley-La is in flames. The Straw Hat Pirates, already reeling from the loss of two crew members, have been beaten and scattered across the island. Franky, the dismantler boss of Water 7 has been exposed as the shipwright Cutty Flam and the blueprints to the ancient weapon Pluton are now at risk. The chips are down, and all seems lost. It's time to fight back.
One Piece Vol. 38 sees Luffy and the gang regroup and chase after Robin, setting up the next phase of the Water 7 story that will take place on the judicial island Enies Lobby. In that regard this volume is mostly transition and setup, though it still moves at a good pace and contains a few surprises along the way.

After an extended chase the Straw Hats and their allies have finally reached Enies Lobby. But before they can face CP9 and save Nico Robin from the Gates of Justice, they'll have to fight their way through government agents, troops, elite forces and the other defenses on the island. Cue mayhem.
The objective may be relatively simple (get from point A to B), but Oda spices up the chapters in this volume with a wide variety of foes that our heroes have to overcome. The two giants and three-headed judge on the book's cover are a sampling of what's in store, and all become quite memorable despite their limited page counts.
